WORDS FOR LIFE
How wonderful it is to ask the Lord to teach us how to pray. May praying be a gift from Him, rather than a great effort on our part as if God didn’t exist. It is a gift we receive from Him.
It’s important to look at the Lord’s Prayer in its entirety and especially at the two invocations at the beginning: “Our Father who art in Heaven”.
St.Thomas Aquinas, in his commentary on the Lord’s Prayer, tells us that a prayer should always have 5 characteristics which can serve later as a means to examine one’s conscience – it should be trusting, honest, orderly, devout and humble.
