WORDS FOR LIFE: March 13th 2016, 5th SUNDAY OF LENT:
Jesus bent down and started writing on the ground with his finger. Those men brought in a woman caught in the act of adultery and asked whether she should be stoned to death according to the Law of Moses.
The Master said, “Let anyone among you who has no sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” He bent down again, writing on the ground. Jesus realised their attitude was due to their thoughts and background. As a result, they went away one by one starting with the elders. Again Jesus bent down, writing on the ground.
It´s surprising that the Law of Moses allowed the stoning of adulterous women. This was due to the fact that ancient peoples were very brutish, polygamous and violent and allowed human sacrifice. God is gradually preparing the people to drop these barbaric customs and to be ready to accept Christ´s message.
